From Horsebox to Gin Bar
Giving Our Horse Box Gin Bar a New LookThe Paint Job
Painting a horse trailer is one of those jobs that sounds simple, but the prep work takes serious time and patience.
Over the winter of 2024, we spent hours sanding, wet-and-drying, and generally getting the trailer ready for its new look. Plenty of tea breaks kept us going, but it was worth it to move the gin bar conversion forward.
Before painting, we repaired the mudguards — one had rust holes that needed patching with aluminium and filler, followed by a coat of red oxide paint to protect it for the future.
Then came the fun part: the primer, basecoat, and topcoat. Using an electric spray gun (a huge time-saver compared to spray cans), we applied two coats of each layer. For the primer we used Tetrosyl EP21 in grey, and for the final finish we chose Paintman Land Rover Series 2 Engine Blue.
The colour felt right for us — it reflects our personal style and ties into the identity we want for our horse box gin bar. Plus, it’ll help us stand out at events while keeping the trailer protected from the elements.
