The Gin bar project

Chapter 3: The paint job

The paint job

Painting a horse trailer can be a rewarding project that transforms it’s appearance and protects it from the elements. But no one said how tedious the prep work can be! Over the winter of 2024 we spent hours wet & drying the box ready for paint in the spring. lets just say many cups of tea were needed to keep us going.

Ones this was done both mud guards had been removed, and fixed as one had a couple of wholes in from the rust over the years so this was treated with a small peace of aluminium and filler, smoothed down then pained with red oxide paint.

Right now onto the fun stuff, primer, basecoat and topcoat! To apply the different levels of paint we used an Electric spray gun to speed up the process which saved days of work which would have been if we used a spray can. For the primer we used Tetrosyl EP21 in grey and for the basecoat and top coat we used paint man Land Rover Series 2 paint in Engine Blue.

Both the primer, base and topcoats had 2 layers each Applied when it came to the amount of paint we ordered 5 litres of primer and 2.5 litres of base and top coat, which left us with paint left over for touch ups down the line if needed.

We felt by using this colour reflects our personal style colour for the brand which will help us stand out at events.
