The Gin bar project

Chapter 2: The Hatch

The Hatch

So we are now left with a big hole in the right side of the trailer where the wind and the rain can come in from!

Day two was all about getting this fixed and having the aluminium sheet fitted to the hatch so the gin trailer becomes fully water tight again. When it came to getting the aluminium sheet we went to Camberley Precision sheet metal. We gave them the measurements and they cut the sheet to the dimensions we requested, we also gave the measurements for the over all length of the side of the horse box trailer, which we used to make a small overhang to help keep the water from coming in when the hatch is open.

When it came to fitting the sheet we used a rivet gun to make sure the new fitting looks part on the trailer and matches to the rest of the body work. Once we made sure everything lined up we then ran a filler along the top and sides of the steel work to make sure no water could get between the aluminium and framework.
